Posta ve Telgraf Nezarti Binası (Büyük Poatane)

English:
The construction of this building, the largest post office of Turkey, was started in 1905, to serve as the building of Ministry of Post and Telegraph.

The construction was completed in 1909 and the name of the building was first "New Post Office" in 1930s, and then "Grand Post Office". The structure is the first work of the architect Vedat Tek. It is one of the first examples of the 1st National Architecture Movement. Above the entrance gate, "Ministry of Post and Telegraph" is written in Ottoman Turkish, with ceramic decorations.
The entrance of the 4 store, 3200 m2 building is elevated with stairs, and both corners of the front façade is slightly built forward and elevated and covered with a dome. Inside the building, there is a rectangular middle space rising through 3 floors, and rooms surrounding this space. 16th century Ottoman style is prevalent in decorations. The façade is made of hewn stone and marble. The bricks are said to be specially designed by Vedat Tek. The main entrance opens up to a quite large hall. The ceiling rising up to the roof is covered with orange and blue glass.

The building served as Istanbul Radio between 1927 and 1936. In 1958 it started to be used entirely for postal and telegraph services.Today it serves as the Regional Directorate of Istanbul European Side PTT (Posts. Telegraph and Telephone) and on the entrance floor there is a full-fledged post office (Sirkeci PTT Center). In the building there is also a museum on the communication and telecommunication history of the country.

Turkish:
Yapı, mimar Vedat Tek'in ilk eseridir.

Tuğlalarını Vedat Tek'in özel olarak tasarladığı sanılır.
