Dreamer, writer, poet, philosopher, lover of the beautiful - he made his dream become a reality in the creation of Coral Gables, City Beautiful.

Dade County commissioner from 1914 to 1916. He advocated and promoted good highways and transportation.

He founded the University of Miami and gave land and money to establish it.

He was a founder of the historical association of Southern Florida and was its first president. He was a director of Fairchild Tropical Garden and a trustee of Plymouth Congregational Church. He was Miami Post-Master from 1940 until his death.

His dream city of Coral Gables, whose first streets were laid in 1921, is a monument to him.
