Just as the cabin tells a story of the site's history, so does nature. The large stumps in the area tell about early logging activity. Notice in the photo how different the cabin must have been with an expansive view before the new forest grew.

The different trees and plants in the area were often used to supplement supplies at the cabin. Berries, mushrooms, ferns and herb were probably used to add flavor and variety to meals. Bark and wood were used for insulation and heat.

Over the years, a fruit orchard, vegetable garden and numerous outbuildings including a barn, garage and shed surrounded the cabin.
