In 1633 it was open to worship under the name of Temple of Our Lady of Consolation, which it received by order of the Conceptionist Sisters Cloister. It was also a boarding school and orphanage for girls both rich and poor. On February 26, 1863 President Juarez issued a decision to order the expulsion of all the religious orders of the country. The nuns were ex-cloistered on October 12, 1867. During the government term of General Salvador Alvarado, in his 1915-1916 two-year term, the temple was removed from worship and semi-destroyed in its interior. In 1920, it was returned to the clergy. Outstanding in its architecture is the lookout tower, considered a unique example of its generation in Yucatán.
