Ellos fueron sabios para conservar sus riquezas naturales e indomables en la defensa de sus tierras, preservándolas asi para la nación mexicanaCuando su cultura declinaba y la soberanía estaba amenazada, llego hasta aquí el Segundo Teniente de la Armada, Othon Pompeyo Blanco Nuñez de Caceres con el doble propósito de salvaguardar los intereses nacionales y de sentar las bases para una nueva convivencia entre los indígenas y el resto de los mexicanos. Tal es la naturaleza profunda de esta ciudad, llamada inicialmente Payo Obispo. A cien años de aquella gesta memorable, Chetumal se siente orgullosa de recibir en su seno los restos mortales de su ilustre fundador, que en esta fronter tiene su morada definitiva y la protección de un pueblo agradecidoChetumal, Quintana Roo 5 de mayo de 1998English translation:The chiefdom of Chactemal was inhabited by the Maya from very early times. Such is the profound nature of this city, initially called Payo Obispo.
