Camp Hardee No. 39

Camp Hardee No. 39 was organized as a camp of the United Confederate Veterans on August 7, 1891. This cemetery plot was acquired by the camp to provide a final resting place for the men whose valiant service had earned the undying gratitude of the South.

Past Camp Commander J. C. Abernathy led the committee which oversaw the erection of the monument which was dedicated on April 21, 1906.

In addition to the men buried here, several members of Camp Hardee are buried in family plots in the sections surrounding this plot.

"To you Sons of Confederate Veterans we submit the vindication of the cause for which we fought. To your strength will be given the defense of the Confederate soldiers good name. The guardianship of his history. The emulation of his virtues. The perpetuation of those principles which he loved and which you love also. And those ideals which made him glorious. Remember! It is your duty to see that the true history of the South is presented to future generations."
