Five miles NE on State Highway 140 - a notable plantation and manufacturing center of the 1860.

The Federal 23rd Corps, left wing of Sherman forces [US] marching southward from Resaca, having crossed at Field Mill, Coosawattee River, enroute to Cassville, camped at Mosteller May 18, 1864.

Butterfield Div., of the 20th Corps [US], having crossed at Field, also marched by Mosteller. Geary and William Divisions, 20th Corps, were joined at Adairsville by Butterfield.
