Here We Honor
The Price of Freedom

Dedicated to the men and women of the New Holstein area who have served their country in the armed services.

***2008***

The New Holstein Veterans memorial site is in Kiwanis Park on the south side of Hickory Lane at Van Buren Street. It was dedicated in 2008 and honors all men and women who serve in the Armed Forces, past, present and future. The raised bronze lettering on the front planters spell out the theme of "Here We Honor The Price of Freedom" as you pass the 40 foot circular site. A total of four raised planters form an outline around a star shaped courtyard. The star is a familiar symbol in the military and a reminder of the individual States of the Union on the American flag. The five triangular points of the star are composed of colored bricks and inscribed pavers which individuals have donated. The top point of the star is reserved to honor those that gave all and were killed in action.

The pavement in the center of the memorial features a smaller star which serves as the frame for a five sided pentagon granite base that rises up as a symbol of the building that serves as the headquarters for the Department of Defense. A flag pole with the American flag and the Missing In Action flag extends from the center of the black pentagon base as the focal point of the memorial.

Around the circular edge of the memorial and the planters are special pavers as a "Ring of Honor" denoting special contributions. The walls of the planters provide space for historical plaques to commemorate the defense of our freedom. Six additional flag poles for each branch of the Armed Forces provide a back drop to the American Flag along with three military statues. The memorial with its personalized pavers and patriotic symbols is designed as a daily reminder to all, whether driving by in an auto or walking down the path in the park. Four memorial benches invite you to pause for a moment in the star's courtyard and reflect on the theme that here New Holstein honors the price of freedom.
