Inscription
The 788th Co. was nicknamed the Fire Devils because of its reputation for putting out prairie fires while stationed at Camp Ruteledge in Minnesota. The nickname remained with the company throughout service. The men were proud of their reputation and used it to name their company newspaper.

Camp Remains
In this area, the camp kitchen once stood. One can still see part of the concrete foundation and metal food containers left over from the last company mess.
