— Signer of the Declaration of Independence —
This city, township and county were named for Samuel Huntington, signer of the Declaration of Independence and important political figure in the Revolutionary War era. Records indicate the name was given by Elias Murray, Huntington's nephew, when he had the area surveyed for land agent John Tipton. This pioneer settlement had previously been know as Flint Springs.HM Number | HM1COV |
