First major battle fought along Bayou Lafourche during the War Between the States. Marching from Donaldsonville Union forces under General Weitzel (8th NH, 12th & 13th CT) attacked General Mouton (Ralston's Battery, 24th & 18th LA and the Terrebonne Militia). Lacking equipment and reinforcements, General Mouton's force concentrated along Texana Road, the property line between Georgia and Himalaya Plantations, retreated to Thibodaux then Brashear City, leaving the region in control of Union forces.
