Marion Martin Weaver, Jr. was a driving force in the broiler, timber, and commercial/residential construction industries, building over 2,000 poultry houses across East Texas and Western Louisiana.
As a proud lifelong resident of Center and an avid outdoorsman, he was instrumental in promoting tourism for the Toledo Bend area.
Winning outstanding bass fisherman awards from numerous organizations in Texas and Louisiana, including the Dallas Woods and Water Club, he with his beloved wife, Joy, introduced this region to scores of sportswriters throughout the South.
Devoted to God, family, community and country, Martin served as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Infantry in Japan during World War II.
He was the founder of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Shelby County, a charter member of the Center Country Club, and an active member of the First Christian Church, Rotary Club, and City Council.
His favorite song summarizes Martin Weaver's life: "Give, the world a smile each day, helping someone along life's way." He did just that!
