English translation:The Temple of the Blood of ChristThis temple was built outside the walls of the city. A neighborhood soon formed around it, which later has been identified as a micro-culture in the already singular city of San Juan de los Lagos. It was here on the outskirts of the city on a property along the Royal Road to Guadalajara, all this at the time when Lerdo de Tejada ruled the country in 1872 when construction began on the church in a slow way. By 1900 the central vault was finished but services were carried out in what are currently the sacristies. In 1900 construction was started on the main dome, which was finished promptly. With an austere, hybrid-Baroque style, the temple was built from red, volcanic stone, the same stone that is found in the nearby hills, from where it was extracted. In addition, the different

stages of construction can be seen by the variety of limestone in the church's walls. The plan of the temple is of a Latin cross of 33 m in length by 9.5 m width, with wings of 18 m. The height of the temple in the central nave is 13 m. The interior was recently restored by architect Salvador de Alba.Another recent intervention can be seen in the construction of the "pilongos" or turrets, since they were previously unfinished. It is worth seeing the atrium with its mosaic of white luxor stone and pebbles and the interior mosaic flooring that must be preserved at all costs. The interior includes the tombs of illustrious predecessors. The altarpiece is made up of the main image of Christ in the Calvary with the paraphernalia of the Precious Blood of Christ, the most important object of the temple and the surrounding neighborhood.
