This is the birthplace of motion picture comedy. Here the genius of Mack Sennett took root and grew to laughter heard around the world. Here movie history was made. Here stars were born. Here reigned, and still reigns "The King of Comedy" Mack Sennett.

From 1912 to 1928 this property was the Mack Sennett Studio, home to Keystone and Mack Sennett comedies and where Charlie Chaplin, Mabel Normand, Ford Sterling, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, Harry Langdon, and Ben Turpin gained screen fame when Sennett came to 1712 Allesandro Street (now Glendale Boulevard), the Selig Polyscope, Pathe, and Norbig Studios were within walking distance. Today, this is the only surviving structure from the time Edendale was the center of Los Angeles film production. In 1954, this plaque was mistakenly placed at 1845 Glendale Boulevard, site of the Selig Polyscope studio, and remained there to 2007. With thanks to District 13 Los Angeles City Councilman Mitch O'Farrell, Public Storage, and those who contributed to its restoration, Hollywood Heritage Inc. rededicates this plaque in the place where it has always belonged.
