Museum Willet-Holthuysen was originally built as family
residence in 1685-1690. Since then several leading
members of Amsterdam society have lived here. The last
to make it their home were the wealthy art collectors,
Abraham and Louisa Willet-Holthuysen. After they died,
the house and its valuable contents were given to the city
of Amsterdam and opened as a museum in 1895.

The museum house shows how Abraham and Louisa lived
amid their splendid possessions, served by their staff. A
selection of antique glassware, silver, ceramics, sculpture
and paintings is presented in a series of unique historical
interiors and period rooms. Behind the house lies a long
garden laid out as a typical early eighteenth-century town
garden in the French style.

personeel.
achttiende-eeuwse

stadstuin in Franse stijl.
