Graf Dernbachs Witwe Eleonore (geb. Hatzfeld-
in ihrer heutigen Form.
Herausragende Künstler, wie der Baumeister Balthasar Neumann, der
Freskomaler Giovanni Francesco Marchini, der Bildhauer Lukas van der
Auvera und der
Kunstschreiner Johann Georg Neßtfell arbeiteten für den
kunstsinnigen Grafen.
Seit 1. Januar 1976 ist Wiesentheid Sitz einer Verwaltungsgemeinschaft. Nach Eingliederung der
Gemeinden Reupelsdorf (1972), Geesdorf (1977),
Feuerbach (1978) und Untersambach (1978) zählt
der Markt Wiesentheid heute 4.677 Einwohner
und umfaßt eine Gesamtfläche von 30.71 qkm.

(English translation:)
The first mention of "Wisenheida" is encountered through a documented donation in 918 by the bishop Drakolf von Freising to the
Monastery Schwarzach. Later
the place came into the possession of the Counts of Castell, who from the 13th to
to mid-16th century installed various noble families in ministerial positions. The largest feudal property was held by the Fuchs Family of Dornheim from the middle of the 15th
Century. In 1547, Valentin Fuchs acquired from Count
Konrad von Castell the "Little Seat", the precursor of the castle, as an
hereditary fief. His son, Hans, had constructed in 1576 the oldest portion castle, now called the "Fuchs Building". The widow of the last Fuchs von Dornheim sitting here married Johann Otto von Dernbach in 1676, who in 1682 elevated the status of Wiesentheid to market town.
Count Dernbach's widow Eleonore (née Hatzfeld-Gleicher) in 1701 married the Imperial Count Rudolf Franz Erwein von Schönborn, under whose reign there soon began a brisk amount of construction, thus creating the townscape of Baroque and Rococo buildings today: the imposing St. Mauritius church, the rectory, town hall, pharmacy, the administrative builings on Kanzlerstrasse, as well as the Cross Chapel and the Residential Palace in their present form.
Outstanding artists, such as the master builder Balthasar Neumann, the
fresco painter Giovanni Francesco Marchini, the sculptor Lukas van der
Auver, and craftsman Johann Georg Nessenfell all worked under the patronage of the Counts.
When the Counts' holdings were incorporated into the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1806, Hugo Damian Erwein I von Schönborn distributed the family holdings to his three sons. Franz Erwein Damian received the portion containing Wiesentheid, which the Schönborn family has been able to keep to this day.
The Marian column on the former market square was built in 1859. The
connection to the Kitzingen-Gerolzhofen railway line in 1893 came after an
economic recovery, which, was then later accelerated by the construction of the
highway (1959-63), and continues to this day, with numerous production and processing companies having located here. Since January 1, 1976 Wiesentheid has been seat of the local community government. After the incorporation of the Reupelsdorf (1972), Geesdorf (1977),
Feuerbach (1978) and Untersambach (1978) communities, the market town of Wiesentheid today numbers 4.677 inhabitants and covers a total area of 30.71 square km.
