Jesuit/Pauline Church of St. Mary and Monastery

The church and the monastery of the Jesuit Order were erected in the course of the 17th century and in 1678 their residence was elevated to the position of college. Count Ivan V. Drašković was installed as ban in the Church of St. Mary on 17th February 1732. During a brief visit to Varaždin Emperor Joseph II (1780-1790) visited the Pauline monastery. His nephew, Emperor and King Francis II (I) Habsburg-Lothringen (1792-1835), visited the monastery twice, in 1810 with his third consort Maria Ludovica, and in 1818 with his fourth, Caroline.
