Religious life in Sainte-Flavie
Since the founding of the parish in 1829, three churches have been built in Sainte-Flavie. The inhabitants erected their first temple between 1848 and 1850. As with most new parishes of the time, the building was small (84 feet x 40 feet), and built of wood. Half of the sacristy then served as the rectory. The parish priest quickly realized the need to build a suitable rectory, which was done in 1853.
Despite the space liberated in the sacristy with the removal of the rectory, the wooden church became too small for the growing population. So, in 1872 the parish decided to build a church better adapted to the needs of the time. After many debates on the size and shape of the new place of worship, work began in 1878. Finally, the dedication took place at the 1884 Christmas party. The parishioners now had at their disposal a beautiful and large church of cut stone (142 feet X 60 feet).
In 1948, disaster occurred in the Flavian community with the church being completely destroyed by fire. Far from being brought down by the event, the parish undertook the construction of a new building. In just one year, a new church was born. Architecturally, it is said to be inspired by the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome.
