Constructed using funds raised by public subscription, this monument was dedicated in July 1912, to the memory of citizens of Neshoba County who served in the Civil War (1861-1865).

The statue on the monument was damaged by a windstorm in 1990 and was restored by the citizens of Neshoba County in 2006.

Men from Neshoba County served in numerous units. According to Dunbar Rowland's Military History of Mississippi, the units who served which were organized in Neshoba County were:
