In 1916, the Great Northern Railroad extended their branch line north from Choteau. Mr. James Hill, the president of the railroad had promised his friend L.B. Pendroy he would build a railroad to his home. Since the railroad was never extended across Farmers Coulee, the town was named Pendroy in his honor.
