Troops H & I, 10th Calvary, Buffalo Soldiers, were dispatched from what is now, Cheyenne Wells, Co. Troop H arrived on September 25, 1868 to the relief of the Forsyth Scouts, who were known to be in danger of total annihilation by a largely superior force of Indians on the Arickaree River.
