The Mississippi River Overlook was completed in the spring of 2009 thanks to the support of the Gateway Center of Metropolitan St. Louis, which raised $4.2 million to fully fund its development. It was designed to anchor the western edge of the Malcolm W. Martin Memorial Park and provide spectacular views of the Gateway Arch and downtown St. Louis skyline, as well as the Gateway Geyser. The handicap-accessible tiered structure stands just over 43 feet tall at its highest point and is highlighted by an illuminated stainless steel railing system so that visitors can enjoy both daytime and nighttime views.
