Located near this point, a stockaded log structure stood as a place of refuge for the region's earliest settlers. The Fort was originally built by Robert Barr, in 1768, and was utilized during Lord Dunmore's War of 1774, and throughout the many years of hostilities with the natives. On April 21, 1778, nine of the 20 men who left Fort Barr to assist the beleaguered Fort Wallace were killed about five miles northeast of this point.
