Profesor Carlos Valdéz Chay (Pintor de Bacalar)Profesor Jesús Morales Rosas (Historiador)English:Cenotes, Fresh Water SupplyA "cenote" (well) is a natural cave shaped by erosion of the limestone layer. Generally the dome falls apart exposing the underground water source. Depth varies; some of them have 60 meters or more. There was a "cenote" in Bacalar that provided fresh water since the pre-Columbian time up to 1969. It was located in the 16th street west after the electric energy towers.English translation:Professor Carlos Valdéz Chay (Bacalar painter)Professor Jesús Morales Rosas (Historian)
