Ormond/Daytona Beach

Sportsman cars (formerly Sportsmen's) ran in same race with Modified's Modified-Sportman race had 118 starting drivers with 1st 11 finishers in modifieds. Roll bars became mandatory. Tim Flock finished 1st but disqualified for improper (wooden) roll bar. Jack Smith declared winner. 3rd place Sportsman finisher, Al Stevens, 1st driver ever to communicate by radio with pit crew spotters. Marshall Teague won Gran National race shortened due to incoming tide.
