This Brigade was to the left of and in rear of Brannan's Division when the Confederates pierced the line at Brotherton's and began their advance northward through the Dyer field. Hastily changing front the Brigade moved by its right and occupied this line from the crest on the right to the woods on the left. It here checked the advance of Hood's Division by a charge, when McLaws' Division following Hood's forced Harker back, first to the road in rear of this position, and finally to the open crest beyond. On the latter line it successfully resisted the assaults of Humphrey's, Kershaw's and Gracie's Brigades until night. The Battery of the Brigade was not engaged after moving from Brotherton's. It was caught in the break and retired to Rossville.
