A Milwaukee icon and the ninth Commissioner of Major League Baseball, Allan H. "Bud" Selig brought baseball back to his hometown after purchasing the Seattle Pilots out of bankruptcy in 1970, and rebranding the club as the Brewers. Led the franchise until 1998 when his role was Acting Commissioner was made permanent. Under Selig's ownership, the Brewers twice went to the postseason - first in 1981, and then the next year when the club reached the World Series. Instrumental in the construction of one of the great ballparks in baseball, Miller Park, which opened in 2001. During his 39 years as owner, the franchise won seven Organization of the Year Awards and 2,210 games, including 433 wins during a five-year stretch (1978-1982) when the Brewers had the second-most victories in baseball.
