1914 - 2008

Mary led the effort in forming the Lonaconing Furnace Park Association for preserving the Lonaconing Iron Furnace, now a historic landmark, and in establishing the community park at this location. Revered and beloved as a public school teacher for thirty-six years, Miss Meyers, who was born and lived in a home at this same location for more than ninety years, was a personally quite, yet forceful and frequently acclaimed activist in the civic and cultural affairs of Lonaconing and Allegany County. Mary and her sister Catherine donated their home and land to the Town of Lonaconing in 2007. This plaque is erected by her family and friend in her honor in 2012.
