The outer city gate was part of the heavy
fortification that protected the city.
It included an inner city gate and four solid towers.
Between the two gates was a spacious paved courtyard.
The gate of Bethsaida is the largest and
best preserved city gate from the biblical
period (10th-8th centuries B.C.E.).
