Jacob Stroud, the founder of
Stroudsburg, bequeathed this
property to his son Daniel who
later deeded it to his sister
Sarah and her husband
Dr. James Hollinshead. They
built the present house in 1829.
Their son, Stroud J. Hollinshead,
donated the adjoining land for
the original county courthouse
and contributed to its
construction. Stroudsburg
became the county seat in 1836.
