John Lonergan
a native of Ireland,
who having made
the United States
his adopted country,
defended it in the
Civil War, and at the
Battle of Gettysburg
with distinction as
Capt. Co. A, 13th VT Reg't.,
and was awarded
a Medal of Honor
by Congress.
He was twice named
Dep. Coll. of Customs.
Born on April 7th 1838.
He died August 6th 1902:
Believing in future life,
and in the destiny
of this dear land.
