Inscription
Built in the year 1835 by Major Isaac Compton Elston. A soldier in the War of 1812 and Black Hawk War. He was then in his thirty-ninth year, a pioneer merchant, banker and financier.

Presented to Wabash College by Major Elston's grandson, Isaac Compton Elston, Jr., 1873-1964. Veteran of the Spanish-American War, banker, broker and long a good friend and trustee of the college.
