To the Soldiers of Fort King Georgewho gave their lives in defense ofthe Southern English Frontier inAmerica during the occupation ofthis little outpost from 1721 to 1727and were buried upon this bluff. FortKing George, built on the low ground 200 yards east of here, was the firstEnglish settlement in the land which is now Georgia. More than 140 British soldiers lost their lives in the firstplanned effort to hold the Old Southeastfor English speaking people.
