(1860-1941)

The Buckingham was the last residence of Ignacy Jan Paderewski, first Prime Minister of Poland, great pianist, composer and friend of six U.S. presidents, whose efforts restored the independence of Poland at the end of World War I.

Paderewski debuted at Carnegie Hall during its first season on November 17, 1891, and until his death on June 29, 1941, he contributed substantially to the cultural life of the City of New York.
