This ship is a replica of Christopher Columbus' ship Ni?a. It is one of three ships built in Spain to commemorate the historic 1492 voyage. After crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the three ships toured American ports in 1992 before coming to their permanent home in Corpus Christi in 1993. The caraval Ni?a, constructed at the Naval Dockyard in Cartegena under the auspices of Sociedad Estatal Quinto Centenario, was christened and launched in 1989 by Her Royal Highness Princess Elena.
