You are standing in a reconstruction of a burial hut built in this location over six hundred years ago. Its size and shape are based on evidence gained through scientific archaeological excavation. The outer walls are made of upright posts covered with wattle and daub. The roof is made of poles lashed together and covered with straw thatching on the outside and river cane on the inside. A small central hearth provides light and warmth for visitors to the burial hut. Similar structures, perhaps for each clan or extended family groups, might have been located within the stockaded walls.
