Dr. William Hooper Councill served as President of Alabama A&M University and was the catalyst for its early development from its founding in 1875 until his death in 1909. Born a slave, Dr. Councill emerged as a man of vision, conviction, and stamina, driven by a quest to further others through the promise of education. The Founder's Memorial Project was conceived and executed through the leadership of Dr. Dorothy William Huston, George Sharpe Valrie and Jerome Saintjones.
