What once was a cow path became a muddy plank road later named the Two Cent Road for the toll charged. A gravel route, it angled southwest across Three Notch Road, a wilderness trail blazed by Indians who marked it slashing three notches in tall trees. Hardy Hopewell area settlers set out on foot along that tangled terrain, now State Road 135, driving their sheep, hogs and cattle north to market.
