This plaque was unveiled by the Lord Mayor of Dresden Herr Gerhard Schill in the presence of His Excellency the Ambassador of the German Democratic Republic Herr Karl-Heinz Kern and the Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Coventry Councillor G.W. Sheridan on Wednesday the 3rd of April 1974 to mark the naming of this area 'Dresden Place' as a symbol of the friendship link between Dresden and Coventry born out of wartime destruction and now devoted to international understanding and peace.
