Ormond/Daytona Beach

Rejecting 1953 bid to move Speedweek races to Palm Beach County, Bill France recognized crowd problems at beach-road course and prompted local officials to plan permanent 2.5 mile speedway on Daytona mainland. Public authority, formed to get speedway financed and built, asked France to continue February races on beach-road course until new speedway built.
