One of the Moravians to come to Bethabara in 1753 was a tailor, and his 1756 shop stood near the pottery on the town square. When this new tailor's shop was built in 1764, the first shop became a dining room for the Brothers House. Governor Tryon stayed here in 1767 and again in 1771, after the Battle of Alamance where his troops defeated the regulators. The tailoring business was moved to Salem in 1772.

"In 1764 and 1765 were built... a tailor's shop, affording rooms for two families."
