In the early 1870's, the citizens of the Town of Kernersville literally brought the Railroad to and through Kernersville by contributing the physical labor to construct over four miles of track, thereby bringing commerce to the Town and raising the census from 100 in 1870 to 500 in 1880 and 1,000 by 1888.

Jule Korner is recognized not only as the designer and builder of our local landmark, Korner's Folly, but also as one of the first designers of outdoor advertising on the large "billboard" scale, having painted, with his crews, scores of Bull Durham advertisements on buildings across the country during the 1880's.

The Railroad Street Mural depicts the coming of the railroad, Jule Korner's Bull Durham advertising, and Jule's artistic rendering of The Folly. This mural is made possible through the efforts of the Kernersville Downtown Preservation and Development Council and a grant from the Town of Kernersville.
