Historical Plaza Walking Tour Stop 8
The Seitz Drug Store, founded across the street in 1868 on the corner of North Main and Douglas Avenue, was advertised as the oldest established drugstore in western Kansas. The claim still holds true as it is still in existence one block north on Douglas Avenue. The U.S. House operated by Rowdy Joe Lowe was east of Seitz. He and his wife, Rowdy Kate, kept the pot boiling in Ellsworth. They later operated saloons in the "Red Light" districts of Newton and Wichita.HM Number | HM10O3 |
