Five miles east is Red Hill, the last home andgravesite of Patrick Henry, the great oratorof the Revolution. Henry is especially famousfor his "Liberty or Death" speech made in1775 in St. John's Church in Richmond. Henrymoved to Red Hill in 1796 and died there on6 June 1799. To the southeast of the houseis a walled enclosure containing the graves ofPatrick Henry and his second wife. DorotheaDandridge. Although the main house wasdestroyed by fire in 1919 and later reconstructedabove the original foundation, the law office,Henry's last, survives and has been restored.
