Born to wealth and power, he was
forced to hide in the swamps of Long
Island until British forces landed.
He led the 1st Battalion of Delancey's
Loyalists and fought in both battles
of Savannah and many other engage-
ments. At war's end his property
seized, he emigrated to England where
he spent the rest of his days.
