Washington, DC native, Walter "Rock" Greene, began his coachingcareer in 1957 as an assistant football and basketball coach underlegendary Coach "Bob" Smith. Coach Greene became head coach tothe Burley Bears basketball team in 1960. That year the teambecame Western District Runner-up, followed by the Western DistrictChampionship in 1961. In 1963, Coach Greene received an invitationfrom his alma mater, Phelps High School, in Washington, DC tobecome head coach, thus ending his career at Burley. In 1988,Coach Greene was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame atDelaware State University and in 2000 he was inducted into theWashington, DC Sports Hall of Fame.HM Number | HM18CC |
