Princess Anne
Located in Princess Anne, Somerset County, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore celebrates a rich African-American history. This historically black, land-granted doctoral degree granting institution was founded on September 13, 1886 as the Delaware Conference Academy by the Delaware Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church. It opened with nine students and one professor in the Olney building, but added twenty-eight students by the end of that year. It operated under different names until 1970 when it was named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore as part of the University of Maryland System.HM Number | HM19AH |
