When the movement of Geary's Division againstLookout Mountain began on the morning of Nov. 24th,seven companies of the 5th Ohio were left on picketin Lookout Valley to guard the line of defenses.

Three companies continued with Candy's Brigadeand during its assault on the mountain protected itsleft flank. After the craven House plateau wascarried these three companies were sent back withprisoners. The detachment suffered no losses.
