Built by Hardin Reynolds just priorto his marriage in 1843, the housethat became known as Rock SpringPlantation, faces the historic Norfolkto Bristol Turnpike. Nearby was thelog dwelling of his father, AbramReynolds, who purchased 50 acres ofland and settled here in 1814.
Hardin and his wife, Nancy JaneCox, had 16 children includingRichard Joshua Reynolds, founder ofR. J. Reynolds Tobacco Companyand A. D. Reynolds whose son,Richard Samuel Reynolds, foundedthe Reynolds Metals Company.
The house, a state and nationalhistoric landmark, has been restoredto its 19th century appearance andis open to the public.
