Philosopher and Pioneer in Modern Education
Born here on Oct. 20, 1859, John Dewey attended local schools and in 1879 graduated from the University of Vermont. Dewey was world-renowned as a philosopher and author of many books. Ideas drawn from his educational doctrines profoundly influenced American education. John Dewey died June 1, 1952; his ashes are buried near Ira Allen Chapel at UVM.| HM Number | HM1FH0 |
